Vinnk.com FAQ (Frequently asked Questions)

Q: What is Vinnk.com?
A: Vinnk.com is a website/blog written by me about my experiences in Japan. It will focus on cultural, social and educational experiences.

Q: Why would I want to read about your life?
A: Perhaps you wouldn’t. I won’t lie and say my life is terribly exciting. But if you are interested in someday living, studying or working in Japan, you might find it useful to read about someone who is doing that now. Or perhaps not. It’s up to you.

Q: Why is it called Vinnk.com?
A: For the most part I use my pseudonym, Vinnk, on this site. I felt it would be a bit egotistical to name the site after my real name. But then again, the whole concept of this website is admittedly self-indulgent to begin with.

Q: How often do you update the page?
A: As often as I can. It depends on how busy I am. I try to do 3 or 4 updates every week.

Q: Can you link to my site?
A: If your site has interesting content that is related to my site, I would be happy to exchange links with you. Send me an email.

Q: Why did you choose the name Vinnk?
A: There is a book that came out a number of years ago called “Shogun” written by James Clavell. This book is set in the early 17th century and in about an English ship pilot named John Blackthorne and his fellow crewmembers the most notable of them was a man named Vinck. During the course of this novel Blackthorne adapts to Japanese culture, learns the language, and becomes Samurai. Meanwhile Vinck remains a barbarian struggling to survive in this unfamiliar environment and eventually goes crazy tying to cope. In a way I can relate to that. In many ways I feel like that barbarian lumbering around this beautiful country. But I hope to one day to reach that greater level of understanding. On that day perhaps the site will be renamed Blackthorne.com. As for the spelling of Vinnk, “Vinck” is a real name and so is “Vink”, but Vinnk with 2 Ns is totally unique and therefore there is only 1 Vinnk.

Q: Can I use your lesson plans for my own classes?
A: Of course you can, but I ask that if you do, please tell me how they went in your classrooms. I am trying to compile my most effective lessons and any feedback would greatly help me.
Q: You’re site sucks!
A: Hey, that’s not even a question! But yeah, you probably shouldn’t come here anymore.
