She Said Yes!

My Future Bride and Me

People who have been reading this site (despite the fact that it is never updated) have probably noticed a lovely lady named Misako makes frequent appearances. That is of course because for the last two and a half years she has been a huge part of my life. At the end of April I decided that since I never wanted that to end, it was time to take the next step. So I asked her to become my wife.

She said “Yes” and made me the happiest man in the world.

So it looks like I’ll be in Japan for a bit longer…

Alex and I had a joint lesson last week and of course we wanted to give the students something special. I hope everyone is having a very good Christmas season. And it is my New Years resolution to update the site more frequently in 2007.

Sports Competition Days

This is another in my growing list of experiences that at first don’t make any sense to me. As time goes by and my perspective changes, however, I have found that a lot of the things I used to dismiss as “the wacky Japanese system” actually are fairly logical.

Last week were two “Sports Competition Days”. During this time there were no classes at any jr. high school in the district. Instead, every sports club had their final city tournaments on the same day. Each school hosted one sport; the school I was at was doing basketball.

Zen Presentations

I recently returned for a mid-year teachers’ conference. It was a two-day event and during that time I had to give a presentation and listen to countless others. They really ranged in quality. But what makes a good presentation in Japan? Is it Zen? I found an interesting site about “presentation Zen” that I thought was very interesting.
